Off we go to the Arctic Circle!

0 °C

On January 15th, we will begin our journey to Rovaniemi, Finland for a short visit to Lapland. Yes, Finland in January for the two people who fled Ohio because they hate cold weather. Since we now live in a near-perfect climate year round, and this trip doesn't involve us shoveling, scraping, or commuting in snow and ice, we are actually excited about this trip! We are hoping for the right weather conditions to see the Northern Lights.

We will be traveling from Guadalajara to Dallas to London to Helsinki to Rovaniemi. We are taking a one night stop once we get to Helsinki to break up the trip. Here's hoping the Hilton hotel at the Helsinki airport has a comfy bed and room service, that's going to be about all we will be interested in after the first three legs of this journey!

Our destination, Rovaniemi, is right at the edge of the Arctic Circle. It has a population of 63,000, and is the "official" home of Santa Claus. Right now the forecast shows the daily high right around the freezing mark!

We have both been to Helsinki before, Peter once and Gen many times over the past ten years. We have visited Talinn, Estonia and enjoyed some great meals in Helsinki. This will be the furthest north we have been in the world!
